A Welsh-based retailer of home furnishings, home improvement goods, and related items has come under scrutiny by animal charity, Animal Protection Services. Animal Protection Services wishes to clarify its position on private prosecutions undertaken by, and on behalf of, the charity following adverse criticism on claims of "over-zealous prosecution" by our charity.
Hope Starkey, 28, of Abbotsford Road, Nuneaton, appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ Court today.
She admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to a puppy known as Nylah by failing to address the animals’ pain and infection following an ear cropping procedure.
She was sentenced to a 12 month community order which included 180 hours of unpaid work. She was ordered to pay costs of £1,000 towards the prosecution. She was disqualified from keeping all animals for 5 years.
Animal Protection Services is appealing for information after a dog suspected to have been used in animal fighting was found abandoned outside of an animal sanctuary in Liverpool.
The dog, thought to be a Patterdale Terrier-type, was found near an animal sanctuary on Spurriers Lane in Melling, Liverpool. A passer-by took the dog to a vet who assessed the injuries as so severe that the leg had to be amputated.
The dog has been seized and taken into our care pending an investigation.

The court heard how 11 adverts offering puppies and adult dogs for sale had been placed between March 2018 and December 2020. The prosecution said Mr Clayton stood to earn around £31,850 from his illegal puppy trading activities. The defence disagreed and said that the profit made was £15,900.

The court heard how Mr Cramb was running a business of selling XL American Bully puppies. Mr Cramb said that he had made a net profit of £12,000 from the breeding and sale of puppies.

A Salisbury gardener who sold puppies online has been fined.
Animal Protection Services, which brought a private prosecution against Leonard Greenough, said the “designer” dogs the 38-year-old sold on website Pets for Homes would have been worth around £16,700.
A WOMAN from Kingswinford has been fined after pleading guilty to animal welfare offences.
Stacey Skeet of Blaze Park was fined a total of £720 and disqualified from dealing dogs for three years.
