I have discovered that there appears to be some confusion on the part of some authorised bodies including the RSPCA and the Pet Advertising Advisory Group regarding the need for dog breeders to be licensed.
I have communicated with these and others to try and insist on the correct application of this legislation, the answers I get are contradictory with some thinking that breeders don’t need to be licensed if they breed less than three litters a year but that is not the case as I am sure you know, we ourselves have gone through the license procedure with our local council although we only breed two litters a year. If you look on the websites selling puppies, some litters for as much as £30000 to £40000, such as http://www.pets4homes.co.uk and Gumtree you will see that 80% of these advertisers openly say they are not licensed even when the website states in its T&C that they should be.

Maybe these website as partners in the sales should also be taken to court

Animals are not commodities.

There is totally no need for ANY breeder to be charging inflated prices licenced or unlicenced due to demand. Any breeder doing so is in it to make a profit. No dog on this earth warrants a price tag of 2k plus…its insane!!

The sale of just one puppy puts them over the HMRC tax threshold. Just one breeder of this type earn hundreds of thousands of pounds per year.

It works well in America. These judges can award the animals to the charity and the cost of there immediate/emergency care is paid for by the offender. More importantly the judge can recomend in certain cases that there can be a criminal proceedings against the offender which almost certainly, if convicted, end up seizing their assets and money made from the crime. This money could go to help support the rescue charities which would help phase out the unnecessary euthanasia of animals unlucky enough to land up in some of the dog pounds. This makes animal cruelty a jailable offence and that would help stop puppy farms and dog thefts. .
